Bach Flower Remedies

Who was Dr Edward Bach?

Dr Edward Bach (1886-1936) was a Harley street doctor (medical physician), a well-known bacteriologist and pathologist. From the patients that he saw, he observed in them 38 basic negative human states of mind/emotion and developed a remedy for each of those states. When I was studying Bach, I wondered in this modern day age of computers and play stations how many emotions he might have missed – but surprisingly, the emotions of the early 1900’s are no different to the emotions we experience now!

It is now well-established that there are links between emotions, our immune system and therefore, our physical health. His thoughts were that if we were able to acknowledge when our feelings (emotions) were out of balance, by using the correct Bach Remedy to re-balance the mind there and then – the physical body would never get sick as we would not keep on having those negative emotions! A healthy mind leads to a healthy body!

By being able to analyse yourself and how life events are affecting you – you can overcome these negative emotions (states of mind). Dr Bach wanted to address the “causes” of illness, he could see that giving out pills and potions was not the answer to the problem, they helped, but the problems kept coming back.

His dream was that every home would have his Bach remedies and consider them as vital as plasters!! He hoped we would be able to work out which negative emotions were creating problems and promptly put them right!.

So far, I think Rescue Remedy is carried around by at least 50% of the female population (my own estimations) so we still have a way to go! However, the word is getting out and Bach is becoming much more well-known across the World.

Dr Bach was also a Homeopath! He created seven of our Homeopathic Bowel Remedies (from his work as a bacteriologist) again using the principle of “like curing like”!

When we feel fulfilled, happy and positive – we tend to enjoy good health, we get more out of life and we can give more to our friends and family, However, life events happen and sometimes that can tip us off balance.

The intent of Bach Flower Remedies is to help manage the emotional demands of everyday life, each remedy helps a specific emotion – they can be taken individually or a number can be mixed together.

Sometimes, we find it difficult to be honest with ourselves – we might not admit if we are jealous, over-protective, putting on a brave front – but if we can admit to ourselves how we are truly feeling – we are halfway there to balancing that emotion.

If you have trouble working out your feelings – why not ask someone who knows you well to help you, if you don’t want to do that, try an appointment with a Bach Flower Registered Practitioner who has been trained in both taking a case and using the remedies.
